ABOUT US:
A question we often hear is, “Why should we go with a small, boutique consulting firm like Hammett Consulting?” This is a fair question... I could readily review my background and experiences, highlighting my track record in talent management. Honestly, before you select a partner, you want to make sure they know what they’re doing. So the question to consider is, who do you want on your journey toward your company’s strongest future?
I enjoy journeys. On one adventure, my wife and I had a quest to find giant turtles and we joined a tour group to realize this goal. With great anticipation, our group boarded a large bus with our tour guide. He was engaging and funny; told us he knew all the best places for turtle sightings and that he would provide all the information we needed. Our guide was entertaining, he played the ukulele, but he didn’t know us or our intentions…
He spoke from a script–said the same basic things to the last group and would probably say the same to his next one. While we visited all the "well-known" spots where turtles hang out, at the end of the day we didn’t see any giant turtles. We walked away having been guided, but not lead to our goal. The story doesn’t end there.

A few days later we took a different approach. I found an independent guide, a photographer by trade, to take us on a photographic safari. As we learned to take better photos, our guide got to know us–our goals and dreams (including seeing giant turtles). Halfway through the day, our guide asked if we would take a chance and come to a secluded beach she knew often had turtles.
Here is the result:
We realized our goal because we were not being guided by a standardized script. We were not part of a nameless group, following a well-worn path. Our private guide took the time to learn about us and what we wanted to accomplish. Most importantly, our guide was nimble enough to change direction to help us realize our ambition.

If you want to take the same journey that everyone is taking, see and do the same things others see and do, then you’ll do well to choose a firm that has a standard, one-size-fits-all approach. But if you’re on a unique journey, then choose a partner who will walk with you in a unique direction.
